Henri Decoin’s La Vérité sur Bébé Donge (The Truth About Baby Donge) is released.   Jean Gabin and Decoin’s ex-wife Danielle Darrieux star. [ADD]

Christian-Jaque’s swashbuckling adventure Fanfan la Tulipe, starring Gérard Philipe is released.   Gina Lollobrigida also appears. [ADD]

Rene Clement’s Jeux interdits (Forbidden Games) is released.  Child actors Brigitte Fossey and Georges Poujouly play an orphaned girl and the son of a peasant family who build a cemetery for animals using crosses they steal from a graveyard. [ADD]

Julien Duvivier’s comedy Le Petit monde de Don Camillo (The Little World of Don Camillo) is released.   Fernandel and Gino Cervi star as the feuding priest and town mayor who come together to aid young lovers Franco Interlenghi and Vera Talqui. [ADD]





15/10 -

87-year-old Charlotte Méliès, formerly known as actress Jehanne d'Alcy, appears in Georges Franju's documentary film Le Grand Méliès about her late husband, film pioneer Georges Méliès. [ADD]





18/12 -

Spyros P Skouras, president of 20th Century-Fox buys the rights to Henri Chrétien's Hypergonar anamorphic lens system, after seeing a demonstration in Nice with technical director Earl Sponable.   It will call its commercialised version CinemaScope. [ADD]





20/12 -

18-year-old actress Brigitte Bardot marries director Roger Vadim in a civil ceremony in Paris.   A religious ceremony is held the following day in the parish church in Passy. [ADD]
